Johnny Depp plays Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow role at film festival – WATCH

Over the past few years Johnny Depp’s role in the ongoing Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been left up in the air. Rumours have been rife online suggesting Disney have “axed” the star from the ongoing series, something that has neither been confirmed nor denied just yet. At the moment, there are no known Pirates projects involving Depp in the works from Disney, meaning his time as Jack Sparrow has been left on the shelf. That is, until this week.

Depp was recently made the guest of honour at the annual Deauville American Film Festival.

The event included a number of awards, screenings, and press opportunities, as well as a number of red carpets.

During one red carpet event Depp spoke with a number of his fans who came to see him – including one young Pirates fan dressed as Jack Sparrow.

Depp gravitated towards the young fan and instantly began engaging with him.

After saying hello, Depp put on his iconic Jack Sparrow accent, complete with slurred speech, and even began swaying on the spot.

He jokingly asked: “Have you ever seen what you look like? Because I know when I look like that… I look different but I look the same!”

The video, which was posted by Twitter account @Savvy_CapJackie, was captioned: “Johnny Depp making the voice of Jack Sparrow for this little child… It’s too lovely…” (sic)

This is the first time the public have seen Depp slip into the role of Jack Sparrow since his last movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, in 2017.

Depp went on: “I travel with Captain Jack in my suitcase. I belong to Jack Sparrow and he is loyal to me.”

Since then, it has been revealed The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie will be starring in a reboot of the franchise.

The as of yet untitled Pirates film will star Robbie in a secret role with a brand new writer at the helm.

This time around, Pirates is being written by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

In an interview early last year, Robbie explained the new film would be full of “girl power”.

She went on: “It’s too early to talk about it. I love [Hodson], obviously.

“I’m not a producer on Pirates, so I’ll sit back and kind of wait for the process. We’re really, really excited at the prospect of adding obviously a very key female element to that world.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean films are available on Disney Plus now.
