John Mulaney talks bonding with 12-week-old son in SNL monologue
John Mulaney spoke about bonding with his 12-week-old son as he hosted Saturday Night Live.
The comedian, 39, welcomed baby Malcom to the world in November with girlfriend Olivia Munn, 41.
Opening SNL, John admitted that ‘life is a lot better and happier now.’
He said: ‘I have a 12-week-old son. He is a pretty cool guy for someone who can’t vote. His legs are like little calzones, and I want to eat him.’
The star recalled the moment he first ‘bonded’ with his son as he shared a story from when he was born.
‘We were in the delivery room. My girlfriend had just given birth to him and he’s crying a little, so they bring him over to this warmer on the other side of the delivery room, and they put them on the warmer under this big bright light and light is just shining in his eyes.’
He continued: ‘He just looks up at the light and he was annoyed. But he didn’t say anything. I was like, “That’s my son. A polite man in an uncomfortable situation, but he’s not going to make a fuss.”‘
John first confirmed the couple’s baby news in a TV interview back in September, though rumours surfaced online beforehand after Olivia was pictured with a bump.
Predator star Olivia previously admitted to being scared of losing her baby after news of her pregnancy leaked.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, she said: ‘I think what was harder was when you have people talking about it and leaking it out there before I’m ready to talk about it.
‘Since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve had four different girlfriends lose their pregnancies all after the safe zone, (one at) three months, two at four months and one at five, six months.’
Olivia, whose other film roles include Magic Mike and X-Men: Apocalypse, added: ‘I also have an auto immune disorder and I’m 41.
‘There are a lot of elements that come into play when you’re pregnant. There’s a lot of fear. You want to do everything you can to protect your baby.’
Since Malcom was born, John has shared some adorable snaps of the tot on Instagram.
When his son turned two-months-old, the comic posted some sweet snaps posing with his little boy, referring to him as a ‘tiny man’ and ‘fun companion.’
Elsewhere in his SNL monologue, John opened addressed his history of drug use and stint in rehab.
He shared how ‘grateful’ he felt to be there hosting ‘after a very complicated year,’ where he went to a friend’s house for what he thought was a dinner party in December 2020, but which turned out to be an ‘intervention.’
‘When I walked into my intervention, I knew right away that it was an intervention. Do you know how bad of a drug problem you have to have, if when you open a door and see people gathered, your first thought is, “This is probably an intervention about my drug problem?”‘
He checked out of rehab in February 2021 after admitting himself for 60 days of treatment.
