Joe Sugg reaches out to girlfriend Dianne Buswell’s Strictly partner Robert Webb amid exit

Joe Sugg, 30, took to Instagram today to address Robert Webb’s surprising decision to leave Strictly Come Dancing, which meant that the YouTuber’s girlfriend Dianne Buswell’s time on the show has also come to an end. Robert cited “ill health” as the reason for leaving so early on and expressed his “deep regret” over not being able to continue dancing with Dianne.

In a statement released yesterday afternoon, the Peep Show star revealed that he had an urgent consultation with his heart specialist after experiencing worrying symptoms, at which point it was recommended he should withdraw from the competition.

Robert, 49, underwent open-heart surgery only two years ago and the intense, rigorous training process of Strictly clearly proved to be too much of a strain on him physically.

Strictly alumnus Joe, who placed as a finalist back in 2018 with his dance partner and now-girlfriend Dianne, 32, was understandably disappointed to hear the news.

Within hours of the shocking announcement, Joe shared his thoughts with his 5.6 million Instagram followers, adding a picture of Robert and Dianne to his Story.

The YouTuber wrote: “Will miss seeing team dirb on the screen!

“Wishing you all the best Robert.”

Doting boyfriend Joe has been Robert and Dianne’s biggest fan from day one and will likely discuss the departure in more depth on the Strictly Podcast, which he co-hosts with Kim Winston, 36.

In one of the series’ most successful romance stories, Joe and Dianne confirmed they had started dating at the end of 2018, shortly after the competition ended that year, where they placed as finalists.

“Thanks too to everyone at home who voted for us.”

The comedy actor also took to Twitter to address his 529,500 followers: “Very sad to be leaving.”

“Huge thanks to Dianne for being so brilliant and to everyone for watching (and voting!)”

Dianne also expressed her sadness at having to leave with her 855,000 Instagram followers.

“Sadly the legacy of Buswell and Webb has come to an end,” she wrote.

“Even though this was short-lived, I have had such an amazing time dancing and working alongside Robert from our wacky cha cha to that serious tango, Robert showed he could do it all.”

“Although I know we had more up our sleeves, Robert’s health is by far the most important part in all of this and I’m wishing him a speedy recovery.

“Thank you to everybody who supported us this series – it means the absolute world.”

She graciously added: “You will still see flashes of my red hair in the background as I’ll be there cheering on all the amazing couples.”
