Legendary WWE broadcaster Jim Ross is taking time away ‘to heal’ after suffering a nasty fall over the weekend.

The 71-year-old commentator was part of the broadcast team for the main event of AEW Collision on Saturday night, but fans were left concerned by how he looked and sounded on air.

Known as Good Old JR, the iconic announcer was left with a brutal black eye following a fall just hours before the show, and viewers were worried for his health during the broadcast.

‘Jim Ross sounds like he’s really struggling. I hope he’s okay,’ tweeted one fan, as another added: ‘Jim Ross sounds rough tonight #AEWCollision.’

A third person wrote: ‘Jim Ross sounds so sick. Shoulda just gave him the night off tbh #AEWCollision (sic)’

After the show went off air, JR responded to the concern and wrote: ‘I apologize for the way I sounded tonight. Going to step away to heal. Thanks for your support. ????’

A different Twitter user said: ‘We love you brother. Thank you for being the voice of my youth. Please enjoy your time of healing. And thank you for such a legacy.’

The WWE Hall of Famer, who is widely regarded as one of the best of all time, joined Ring of Honor legend Nigel McGuinness and Kevin Kelly as part of the broadcast team on Saturday night.

Hours before they went on air, he shared the photo of his black eye but insisted nothing would change regarding his plans for the evening, as he tweeted: ‘Bad fall this morning. Still headed to Chicago for Collision! Historic night for ⁦@AEW⁩ on ⁦@tntdrama.’

The show was a special one, with CM Punk returning after nine months away to mark the premiere of the brand new Saturday night wrestling show.

AEW Collision airs Saturday nights at 1am on Fite TV.
