Jermyn Prado kept her throne as queen of Philippine cycling, Jonel Carcueva retained his men’s title and Kim Bonilla showed much promise in the four-day PhilCycling National Championships for Road.

Prado ruled the 15-kilometer women’s individual time trial (ITT) in 34 minutes and 43.80 seconds and timed 3:22:04 in completing the 104km road race made extremely punishing by a long steep climb going to the finish.

Carcueva, riding for Go For Gold cycling team, attacked on that same final ascent from Agoncillo in Batangas to Alfonso, Cavite, 15kms to the line at the Praying Hands monument in Tagaytay City.

Go For Gold’s Jonel Carcueva.

Carcueva led Go For Gold’s 1-2-3 finish after clocking 3:05:20 for his second straight men’s road crown with Jericho Lucero placing second, 1:24 behind, and Jaypee Olarte checking in third, 1:45 back.

Rustom Lim topped the 20km men’s elite ITT in 36:21.50 while Ryan Tugawin shared the spotlight by winning the men’s elite criterium during the meet hosted by Philippine Olympic Committee and PhilCycling president Abraham “Bambol’’ Tolentino in Tagaytay City.

The 17-year-old Bonilla raced like a seasoned veteran in seizing the golds in the women’s junior criterium and ITT races.

Other winners in the national championships backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, 7-Eleven, POC and CCN were Mathilda Krog in women’s criterium, Maria Louisse Alejad (youth) and Phoebe Salazar (under-23) in the women’s criterium.

Darius John Villasenor (youth), Andrei Domingo (junior) and Joshua Pascual (under-23) shared the limelight in men’s ITT while John Arwin Velasco (junior) and Pascual (under-23) prevailed in men’s road race.
