Jamie Carragher slams Man Utd players’ performance after Watford loss
Jamie Carragher has slammed Manchester United players’ performance against Watford after they fell to a humiliating 4-1 loss.
United were second best throughout the afternoon, having now lost five of their last seven matches in the Premier League.
Although United had more possession throughout the game, they failed to create much offensively whilst struggling defensively – given Watford a number of chances to capitalise on their poor play. Watford had 20 shots on goal, to United’s nine.
And although manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly on the end of all criticism towards the club this evening, Carragher has stated that the players must take some responsibility for themselves.
He said: “I don’t care what anybody tells me – Manchester United have quality players. You cannot lose to Watford 4-1.
“No matter how you are set up, whether players respect him or whatever – the performances these players that they have given is a disgrace.
“This is one of the highest-paid squads in world football, one of the most expensive, and to lose to Watford 4-1 is disgusting.
“Watching the performances of some of their players is scandalous.”
Carragher added that he expects Solskjaer to be sacked. It remains to be seen whether the club will pull the trigger this evening, with speculation growing around talks within the club.
Carragher said: “It gets to a stage where it becomes untenable – it happened with Roy Hodgson at Liverpool.
“We all know sooner or later that Manchester United will have a new manager.
“It’s not good for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be manager right now.”
