Jamie Carragher has reacted to reports that Roberto Firmino will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Brazil international has told Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp that he plans to leave Anfield when his contract expires in the summer.

Firmino has registered 107 goals and 78 assists across 352 games for the Reds since he joined the club in 2015 from German side Hoffenheim.

The 31-year-old played an important role in Liverpool winning the Champions League and Premier League under Klopp in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively.

But Firmino has been reduced to a bit-part role this term due to injuries and and the arrivals of new signings Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

He has now held talks with Klopp over a summer exit and looks set to move on for a new challenge.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher has now reacted to the news as he posted on Twitter: ‘If the reports about Firmino leaving at the end of the season are true, I do think it’s best for all parties.

‘He’s a Liverpool great [and] will be remembered for being part of one of the best front threes [with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane] we’ve seen.’

Firmino is yet to choose his next club but having registered seven goals and three assists across 16 Premier League games this term, he is still capable of playing at the top level and will likely have a number of options.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are back in action on Sunday when they host rivals Manchester United as they look to continue their top-four push.
