Jamie Carragher concerned for five or six Man United players under Ralf Rangnick
Jamie Carragher believes that there will be five or six Manchester United players who won’t fit into the Ralf Rangnick system when he takes interim charge.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by the club last Sunday after a dismal run of only one win in their last seven games. Michael Carrick was placed in temporary charge and United reached an agreement with 63-year-old Rangnick on Thursday to take charge of the Reds for a six-month period.
Carrick will still be in the dug-out against Chelsea but United supporters are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the German who could be in charge in time for the Arsenal game next week.
His only previous encounter with Manchester United came during his time at Schalke, where they were soundly beaten in the Champions League semi-final but did lead them to DFB Pokal glory.
Rangnick has been credited as one of the tacticians behind ‘heavy metal football’, a style Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel utilise in the Premier League.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Rangnick will bring a clear philosophy to the club.
“Yes [that’s what Man United need] in that there’s a clear plan of what they want to do,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“He has a clear idea of what he wants to do. When you watch Manchester United, especially in the last three weeks when it hasn’t gone well for them, you were not quite sure what they were doing.
“Against Liverpool, were they pressing? Some were pressing, there wasn’t a clear plan, there’s no exact science on how to win a football game or one way works, there’s different ways.
“But Manchester United have not had a plan, from listening to this guy [Rangnick] he’s got a plan. The problem he’s going to have over the next six months, his plan of how the game should be played is chalk and cheese with what we see at Manchester United.
“There’s five or six players where you think that’s not going to fit into that system or that way of playing.”
