Jakobi Meyers sets dubious NFL record in Patriots’ win over Panthers
Jakobi Meyers set an NFL record that will live in infamy during his Week 9 game against the Panthers. He now has the most receiving yards in NFL history for a player that has failed to record a receiving touchdown.
Meyers made just one catch in the Patriots’ 24-6 win over the Panthers and racked up eight yards on the play. It was still good enough to set the all-time record of 1,522 receiving yards without a receiving touchdown.

Gerald Riggs — a running back who played in 129 NFL games over 10 NFL seasons for the Falcons and Washington — previously held the record with 1,516 career receiving yards. But now, Meyers has topped him, and the third-year receiver is still looking for the first receiving touchdown of his career.
Meyers hasn’t been held completely scoreless during his NFL career. He has two passing touchdowns, as the former quarterback has been used on a multitude of trick plays by the Patriots’ offense.

Still, receiving TDs have eluded Meyers during his career. He has come close to finding paydirt a few times in 2021. He was tackled at the 1-yard line against the Texans and had a 25-yard touchdown catch called back due to a James Ferentz holding penalty. Meyers also caught a two-point conversion in the Patriots’ Week 8 win over the Chargers.
Meyers’ inability to reach the end-zone hasn’t been due to a lack of opportunity. He has seven red-zone targets, which is good for the third-most on the Patriots behind only Jonnu Smith (9) and Hunter Henry (8). He also has seen a team-high 46 catches on 72 targets. Kendrick Bourne ranks second in both categories with 29 and 38 respectively.

Eventually, the Patriots will find a way to get Meyers a score. He can be a red-zone weapon, as he showcased on the successful two-point conversion. New England just has to find a way to get the ball into his hands.
For now, Meyers will continue one of the longest scoring droughts in NFL history. He has played in 38 games with 18 starts and has generated 131 catches for 1,522 yards without a receiving TD during his career.
