Alison commented: “Now, we can’t start today’s show without paying tribute to the man who spent the last two decades sitting on the This Morning sofa, Phillip Schofield.”

Dermot added: “So, as a show, everyone on and off screen at ITV, and This Morning, want to say a huge thank you to Phil for what he’s done to make this show such a success over the last 21 years.”

Alison continued: “Quite simply, we all know he’s one of the best live television broadcasters this country has ever had.

They ended the show thanking and “wish[ing] him all the best for the future.”

The presenters added that Holly would take a break and return on June 5.

The news of the former presenter continues to shock viewers as he issued a statement about an affair with a much younger colleague earlier in the week.

Although currently separated from his wife Stephanie Lowe, he confessed that the relationship occurred whilst he was still married.

In his statement, he apologised to his wife and two grown-up daughters.

His management, YMU Group, dropped Phil in a statement released on Thursday.

He also shared that he would not be hosting the British Soap Awards which would have been his 13th year presenting the ceremony.

The Daily Mail reported that Joel Dommett was likely the favourite to present the awards ceremony in Manchester.

Another familiar face to take over could potentially be Dermot O’Leary and Vernon Kay.

Holly eventually shared her side of the story on her Instagram yesterday after remaining silent for the past few weeks.

She posted on her story: “It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.

“It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie,” she added.
