Is Tua Tagovailoa playing Sunday? Brian Flores reveals status of Dolphins’ QB before London game

Tua Tagovailoa will attempt to snap the Dolphins’ losing streak during an overseas matchup against the Jaguars.

The 23-year-old quarterback is making his return after suffering fractured ribs during the Dolphins 35-0 loss to the Bills in Week 2. Coach Brian Flores confirmed his status on Friday morning ahead of their practice in London.

“We’re excited to have Tua back, but there’s 53 guys on the team, 48 will play on game day,” Flores said, per ESPN. “It’s never one person; we have to play together as a team.”

Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over for Miami, but couldn’t produce a victory in his last three starts. Brissett totaled four touchdowns and two interceptions since he took over for Tagovailoa in Week 2. He was sacked a combined total of 12 times through the past four weeks. Although he suffered a hamstring injury during their 45-17 loss to the Buccaneers, Brissett is expected to be available on Sunday.

Through the first two matchups, Tagovailoa completed 17 passes for 215 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He was also sacked twice during each game. If the offensive line can stay solid for their matchup in London, Tagovailoa will have a chance to shine.

“I feel good. Happy to be out there with the team again,” Tagovailoa said during the team’s media availability Friday. “I don’t think it’s 100%, but I’m 100% ready to get back on the field.”

The Dolphins’ offense totals 1,073 passing yards and is ranked third-worst in the league above just the Saints and the Bears. Tua will likely continue his dynamic connection with former Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle. The rookie wide reciever has 231 yards on 36 targets with a touchdown and two fumbles in five games this season.

The Dolphins are scheduled to face the Jaguars from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London at 9:30 a.m. ET.
