iPhone owners must never put their handsets in four ‘danger’ areas

iPhone owners must never put their handsets in four ‘danger’ areas

YOUR iPhone can go almost anywhere with you – but there are some places you should never put it.

If you value your pricey gadget, be very careful with where you’re setting it down.

Worse still, some mistakes could cost you more than just the iPhone…

In direct sunlight

Putting your iPhone in direct sunlight for a while is a bad idea.

Apple specifically warns against doing this “for an extended period of time”.

Similarly it’s important not to leave your iPhone in a car on a hot day.

This can also cause your iPhone to overheat.

If your iPhone gets too hot, it can shut off completely.

And you could also end up permanently damaging it, including reductions to your battery life.

“Store your device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F),” Apple explains.

“Don’t leave your device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.”

In the shower

Most modern iPhones have great water resistance.

If you’ve got an iPhone 7 or later, you’ll be able to splash it with little worry.

Modern iPhones can typically survive briefing dunkings thanks to their water resistance too.

But you must never take it into the shower.

Apple warns against the following:

“Exposing your iPhone to pressurized water or high velocity water, such as when showering, water skiing, wake boarding, surfing, jet skiing, and so on.”

This could cause “liquid damage”, according to the iPhone maker.

Also bear in mind that a wet iPhone could break if it has any cracks in the casing or screen.

That’s because water could get in via the cracks.

Charging under your pillow

You must be extremely careful not to charge your iPhone in bed.

It’s a fire risk, as your handset could very easily get too hot while under a pillow.

“Don’t sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body, when it’s connected to a power source,” Apple warns.

“Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging.

“Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body.”

Apple adds: “Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to iPhone or other property.”

Needless to say, a fire at night is extremely dangerous.

In a steam room or sauna

Using your iPhone in a steam room or sauna is also a bad idea.

Apple says it’s a bad idea and warns against it on its support pages.

You risk either heat or liquid damage, both of which can cause damage to your iPhone that would require expensive repairs.

Just leave it outside – and focus on enjoying the experience instead.
