IP University organises moot court competition for school students – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS) of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) organized a two-day moot court competition for school students. The competition was the first of its kind to be organized by an Indian university.
The competition was held on the USLLS campus in Dwarka, Delhi. It was open to students from Class XI and XII of all schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). A total of 76 teams participated in the competition.
The moot court competition was organized by the Criminal Justice Research Cell (CJRC) of the USLLS in collaboration with the University of Pretoria, South Africa, Kathmandu School of Law, and Global Campus for Human Rights. The CJRC is a research and teaching unit of the USLLS that focuses on criminal justice issues.
The moot court competition was based on a hypothetical case involving the issue of horizontal domicile reservation in education institutions. The students were required to prepare written submissions (memorials) and present oral arguments in front of a panel of judges.
The judges for the moot court competition were eminent jurists, including judges of the Delhi High Court and the Sessions/District court. The competition was also attended by the Vice-Chancellor of GGSIPU, Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, the Dean of the USLLS, Prof. Queeny Pradhan, and other dignitaries.
The team from N.K Bagrodia School, Rohini emerged as the winner, while the team from Prabhu Dayal, Shalimar Bagh was the runner-up. The event concluded with the distribution of several other awards and accolades for the Best Speaker, Best Researcher, Best Memorial, Best Mentor, and Best Team.
The moot court competition was a great success. It provided a platform for school students to learn about the legal system and to develop their critical thinking, research, and advocacy skills. The competition also helped to bridge the gap between school students and law students.
The organizers of the competition expressed their gratitude to all the participants, judges, and dignitaries for their support. They also thanked the CJRC for its hard work in organizing the event.
The moot court competition was a significant event in the history of the USLLS. It was a landmark event that will be remembered for years to come.
