In a recent video, Margot Robbie showcased the house of her character, giving viewers an inside glimpse at the Barbie movie set. The multi-level home’s entrance doors are opened by the actress, who is dressed as the doll in question. At first glance, the open-concept, plastic, and pink-covered house looks like something straight out of our childhood fantasies. Both Margot and the director Greta Gerwig stated that great care was taken to make sure every aspect of the house stayed authentic to Barbie’s reality. Finding the ideal pink was a crucial stage in the design process because it is the emblematic colour of the Barbie doll. Margot also disclosed that a large portion of the Dream House set comprises both practical items and vintage Barbie decals in an effort to make everything as similar to the real toys as possible. This also applies to the refrigerator, which has a door with real shelves and food-filled jars. Yet, a 2D painted decal of food items covers the back of the refrigerator. In addition, the 32-year-old said that the Dream Home has no walls and is entirely open so that she and the other Barbies may “get up in the morning and they can wave at each other.”
The tour reveals how meticulously planned out every little aspect of the house and staging was, right down to how Barbie gets into her car when she wakes up. Take a look:
The house itself is see-through so that all of the Barbies can see each other and wave in the morning.
Just like a real dreamhouse, there are limited walls separating rooms and for the outside of the house.
Theres no water, no fire, or any “elements” in Barbie Land, so all of the water you see is stunningly fake, like the water in the pool at Barbies house.
Barbie gets into her car every morning by floating down from her bedroom.
The production team built miniatures of the whole set before they built the life-size version.
Barbies wardrobe is set up on the wall with each outfit magically appearing each day.
In order to play into “the world of toys,” parts of Barbies dreamhouse have practical things you can pick up, while others are decals, just like on the real toy sets.
