Inglis’ almighty nod to ‘remarkable’ Mitchell

Latrell Mitchell’s dominant return to the Origin arena hasn’t gone unnoticed by Queensland legend Greg Inglis, who believes the Blues centre could be the next captain of New South Wales.

Throughout the first two games of this year’s series, in which the Blues have outscored the Maroons 76-6 in total, Mitchell has reminded fans just how valuable he is to the team after missing out on Origin last year during Queensland’s 2-1 triumph.

The South Sydney star had been in Origin exile since being dumped from the side after Game One in 2019.

Coming off a Game Two performance that nearly saw him take home man of the match honours, Mitchell, who in total has three tries and two try assists to his name this series, has been lauded by Inglis and touted as a future Origin captain

“He was obviously a bit nervous in Game One,” Inglis told Nine News Sydney. “But coming back and dominating Game Two is remarkable.”

Asked by Nine’s Danny Weidler if Latrell’s “the next generation”, Inglis replied with: “Down the track, he could be the captain of the side.”

Mitchell was humbled by Inglis’ comments and admits he too has seen a growth in his own game.

“It’s a privilege and honour coming from him (Inglis),” Mitchel told Nine News.

“I think I’ve grown into being a leader and I enjoy that.

“It gives me a sense of belonging in a team. I get to not talk as much, but lead with my actions.”
