I’m a car expert and you’re using your AC wrong… you’re risking costly damage

A CAR expert claims that most drivers are using their AC all wrong – and in doing so they’re risking serious damage to their car.

The mechanic took to social media to warn drivers that not using the air-con correctly can damage the compressor – and replacing it could cost you up to £850.

TikTok user @preciseauto.sg – with more than 3,820 followers on social media – claims that most drivers make the same mistake when they go to leave their car.

He says: “Before you switch off your vehicle, make sure to turn the AC off first. The air-con compressor will place a hefty load on the engine when the system is running.

“Turning off the AC will cut off the link to the compressor, so when you start the engine – it won’t damage the compressor.

The helpful TikToker then goes on to show other helpful tips.

He continues: “When on rainy days, you turn on the AC and then turn off the air circulation mode, and then turn on the windshield defrost, there won’t be any fog on the glass waiting for traffic.

“Turn on the AC and then turn on the circulation mode so that the gas outside the car will not enter the vehicle.”

The video has gone viral on TikTok with more than 15,100 views.

But people in the comments are not too convinced.

One said: “It’s not true. Modern cars delay the AC coming in after you start. If your car is vintage, maybe, otherwise this is b******t.”

Another said: “Yeah, nobody has time for that.”

A third pointed out: “Rubbish advice.”

This comes after drivers were warned that their air-con needs to be set a certain way to avoid hefty fines.

Plus, a car expert revealed a little-known tip to improve your car’s fuel economy this summer.
