A 23-year-old woman has lamented online about how she still hasn’t had a first kiss.
While there’s no ‘right’ time to do these things, it can feel tricky when you’re supposedly behind the schedule everyone else is on.
By 23, most young adults are expected to have experienced sex – and with more than one person.
Not having had these experiences, a woman named Anneliese from Michigan has shared on TikTok how it’s made her feel – tragically, she’s quite down about it.
‘It’s getting scary. I don’t see it changing anytime soon and I just keep getting older,’ she said of her situation in a viral video.
‘It’s weird because I’m going to be so old and I’ll have to tell someone I’ve never kissed anyone before. I’m so humiliated.’
However, she still wants to stick to her standards, which are to know and care for the person before kissing them.
‘I have to know the person I kiss before I kiss them. I don’t think I can make out with a random stranger. It has to be someone I know and care for,’ she said.
‘I’m really starting to feel like something’s wrong with me. I don’t know why I am the way that I am. It’s not good.’
It’s neither good nor bad, it just is.
In the comments, one person wrote: ‘I am still here at 28’, another added they were the same at 25.
Someone else said: ‘I just turned 24 and feeling the EXACT same way! Not even a crumb of romance!!!’
Another wrote: ‘There’s no shame in it. That being said unfortunately to meet people you have to put yourself out there.’
In a follow up video, she added that she essentially wants a boyfriend before her first kiss.
She said: ‘Everyone’s first bit of advice is always to go to a bar, get drunk, and make out with someone, or go on a dating app and find someone and kiss him.
‘But my first problem is that I don’t drink, and I don’t think I could go up to a stranger sober. I would be so anxious the whole time!
‘[…] So then, I’d have to get a boyfriend before I have my first kiss, and that’s a whole other set of problems because I don’t know how to do that.’
Kissing a stranger doesn’t appeal to her at all, and she fears it will be ‘awful’.
The point is, plenty of people are in a similar situation – and it’s okay.
