Ice skating London 2022 – Seven best rinks in the capital this Christmas

Christmas is almost upon us, and what’s one of the best ways of getting into the festive spirit?

Ice skating, of course!

Whether you fancy yourself as the next Torvill or Dean, or need a penguin aid to keep you upright there are plenty of fabulous ice rinks all around the capital.

But which London ice rinks are the best value for money, and when are they open?

Here’s all you need to know.

London’s newest ice rink is located at the newly refurbished Battersea Power Station.

The rink offers spectacular views of the iconic landmark, boasts a rinkside bar, fairground rides, and an enormous Christmas tree in the centre of the ice.

It opened on November 11 and will be open every day (bar Christmas Day) from 10am to 10pm until January 8.

Tickets cost from £12 for adults and from £8 for kids and can be purchased via the rink’s website.

Somerset House

Somerset House has one of the capital’s most iconic ice rinks, and it’s back for another year!

The neoclassical courtyard houses an enormous 900 square metre rink, with a 40-foot Christmas tree in the centre.

The rink is open from 10am to 9.30pm every day – except December 25th- between November 16 and January 15.

Adult tickets cost between £10 and £20 and tickets for under 12s are between £8.50 and £10.

Hampton Court Palace

Henry VIII’s old pad is a gorgeous backdrop for this ice rink, which looks especially impressive in the dark.

The rink is open every day – except Christmas Day – from November 17 to January 8 between 10am and 8.45pm.

Adult tickets start at £17.50 and under 12s tickets start from £13 and can be purchased via the rink’s website.

Canary Wharf

London’s business district has one of the longest-running ice rinks in the capital.

The Canary Wharf ice rink is open for a whopping 18 weeks – from October 22 to February 25.

The rink is covered by a canopy – so bad weather cannot disrupt the fun- and accompanied by an Alpine-themed ski bar with impressive views of the rink.

It is open from 12pm to 9.40pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to 10.15pm on weekends.

Tickets cost from £17.95 for adults and from £13.50 for under 12s and can be purchased via the rink website.

Skylight Tobacco dock

Fancy skating with panoramic views of the capital? Skylight Tobacco Dock is home to Europe’s only rooftop ice rink.

Tickets cost £15 for a 45-minute session and can be purchased on the day from the venue.

Heated igloos can also be hired out at the venue and there is an apres ski bar also on site.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

The ice rink at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is one of the best-known in the capital.

Skate alongside Christmas market stalls, Alpine bars and an array of other activities at the home of Christmas in London.

Winter Wonderland is open every day (bar December 25) from November 18 to January 2 between 10am and 10pm.

Entry into Winter Wonderland ranges from £0 to £7.50 and ice skating costs from £14.50 for adults and £9.50 for under 12s.

However, if you spend more than £25 per person on attractions, food or drink when buying tickets online then entry into Winter Wonderland becomes free.

The Queen’s House Ice Rink

South London’s only outdoor ice rink is located in front of Greenwich’s majestic Queen’s House. 

The rink is open from November 17 to January 8 between 10am and 9pm.

Tickets cost from £16 for adults and from £10 for children and can be purchased via the venue’s website.
