A COPYWRITER and comedian has revealed how she lost her job to an artificially intelligent bot.
Emily Hanley went viral for revealing how ChatGPT took her copywriting job and she has a stark warning for others regarding AI.
Hanley wrote an article for Business Insider in which she explains what happened to her.
The comedian joked: “I always dreamed of going viral because of my brains or my undeniable beauty.
“I never thought it would be because I made a TikTok about losing my job to AI.”
Hanley was working as a full-time freelance copywriter.
She created content for various outlets and described herself as comfortable and pursuing writing and comedy outside of her day job.
Her work started to decrease slowly at first.
Soon, she was barely receiving any copywriting requests at all.
When she enquired at the company that she received most of her work from, she was told clients were unwilling to pay for copywriting alone.
She wrote: “Clients were simply unwilling to pay for copywriting any longer unless that writer could also provide email management and a funnel-building system, most likely because of the newfound popularity of ChatGPT.”
Hanley has taken a job at a grocery store while she still hunts for the right role for her.
She says she even applied for a six-month job training an AI software to write in her style and eventually replace her.
The copywriter doesn’t think her industry is the only vulnerable one.
She thinks it would be naive to assume artists and creatives are safe from the AI revolution.
Hanley warned: “If a robot can do your job for less, you better believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen.”
