I travel 6 months a year & always do 3 things before flight that take seconds

A FREQUENT flyer has revealed the three steps she always follows when travelling to keep both her belongings and herself safe.

This summer showed how easy it is for problems to arise at airports, with strikes and staff shortages leading to delays, cancellations and lost luggage.

However, lawyer Erika Kullberg’s (@erikakullberg) tips ensures that, if she does run into problems, she’s well prepared to deal with them.

In a video on Tiktok, she showed the three simple things she does every time she flies.

The first of her three tips is to take photos of your suitcase before you check it in.

This is to act as proof of the condition it was in before check-in in case it gets damaged by the airline, so she can get compensation.

She said: “If your bag is delayed, damaged or lost, the airline is responsible.

“I take take the picture as proof of what the bag looked like at check-in, just in case I need to claim money.”

The second thing Erika does before flying is texts the flight number to a friend, a relative or to whoever is picking her up from the airport at her destination.

Iphone users can simply click on the number and track the flight, whereas other phone users can use various websites to see how the flight is getting on, and whether or not it will be delayed.

Erika explained: “On iMessage all they have to do is hold down the flight number to see the status of the flight.”

The third and final thing she does before flying is put an airtag in her suitcase.

This is a popular hack and allows passengers to track their luggage after checking it in.

Therefore, if it gets lost or is delayed, she will know exactly where it is.

She said: “I pop an airtag in every bag. Once I land, I’ll know where every bag is, or if it’s been lost or delayed, I’ll know so I can file a claim.”

Erika’s advice was well-received by other Tiktok users.

One wrote: “The AirTag is very smart. When the airline claims to not know where it is you just show them.”

A former baggage handler said: “The picture is a great idea! Saying ‘black with wheels’ doesn’t help.”

A third added: “Ah this is so smart!! I’ll try remember this when I travel next.”

Meanwhile, these other Tiktok packing hacks could make travelling much easier.

These hacks help passengers when just travelling with hand luggage.
