I took my kids to the UK’s best dinosaur attraction – it’s really affordable

“I’VE never seen him so happy,” said my husband, as our four-year-old sprinted between rides with uncontrollable excitement.

His eyes were out on stalks from the moment we set foot in Roarr!, the action-packed dinosaur attraction in the Norfolk village of Lenwade.

He surveyed the climbing frames, gigantic dinosaur slides and “fossil-filled” sandpits with awe, unsure of where to go next.

Even his seven-year-old sister decided she was not too cool to dance along to the “dinosaur stomp” at the outdoor Live Dippy Show.

Both kids shrieked with delight as we wound our way through the Valley of the Dinosaurs, with its moving animatronic models.

Then they battled for pole position in the cars on Dippy’s Raceway, and got up close with a snake in the secret animal garden.

The park is great value for money when you consider that all of this comes with the entry price, which is capped at £19.95pp, even in peak season, while kids under 90cm go free.

With so many different activities, such as a high ropes course, the eight-hole Jurassic Putt crazy golf and shows at Dippy’s Theatre, it’s well worth downloading the park’s app to help you get the most out of your visit.

More rides are opening up during the summer, as well as a gigantosaurus-themed attraction due to open next year, ahead of the launch of a Gigantosaurus Land in 2026.

Make sure to pick up a card booklet on your way into the park so little ones can collect stamps in order to earn a medal at the end.

The hardest task of all was dragging the kids away from the fun at lunch.

We managed to sit them down just long enough to chomp through a plate of pizza and loaded fries before they rushed off again to go and climb their way through Pterodactyl’s Tree-house.

If it’s a hot day then a stint in the splash park is one for the bucket list.

It was the perfect way to round off our visit, with both children squealing excitedly as they ran through the fountains and cannon shoots.

If you want to extend the fun then book a stay at West Lexham eco-retreat near King’s Lynn, that features reasonably-priced treehouses, cabins and canvas bell tents, all in a stunning rural setting.

Our dog-friendly fairy light-festooned treehouse came with wood-framed double beds and bunk beds, a log stove, plus an en-suite shower and toilet.

There was also a communal outdoor kitchen (including BBQ, microwave, kettle and toaster).

In the early morning, we enjoyed a dip in the (chemical-free) heated outdoor pool, and a gentle walk around the wildlife-friendly gardens and meadow areas, followed by some well-earned hot chocolates.
