‘I re-watched Bridgerton’s steamy sex scene and I actually found it hilarious’
It’s one of the most memorable scenes from Bridgerton season 1.
Daphne and Simon are finally alone after their rushed marriage and boy is there a lot of tension in the air.
The stage is set. There’s a roaring fire (of course), so many candles it’s got to be a hazard, and two newlyweds both breathing like they’ve just run a marathon…
Honestly, within two minutes of re-watching this scene I couldn’t help but think: is it even possible to be really that flustered?

Don’t get me wrong, the actors are fabulous and so is the show. But that doesn’t mean I can’t see how over the top it is at times. That’s part of its charm.
On their first night as a married couple, Daphne and Simon wait in their own separate rooms at an inn, and both pace back and forth frantically. The people staying downstairs must have been quite annoyed by all the heavy footsteps.
Suddenly, Daphne opens her door to see Simon standing there. At first, she is pleased. Then she realises he just wants to go downstairs for dinner.
Of course there have been violins playing all along, it wouldn’t be Bridgerton without them, making modern pop songs regency-friendly. At least it isn’t Ariana Grande this time.
A heated discussion ensues (oh, how the line between love and hate blurs…) before those famous lines are uttered: “That is what happens when one burns for someone…
“You burn for me? (….) I burn for you.”
Now, it might be my English GCSE talking but I reckon that big old fire in the room is a symbol.

And so the violins get louder and the couple get closer. The whole thing is just so dramatic I couldn’t help but laugh when I re-watched it.
There are so many close-ups, so many heavy breaths, so many buttons…let’s be honest, with the clothes women wore back then it would have taken at least half an hour just to get undressed. That must have gotten in the way of the romance a smidge.
Then Simon says something very rude that I shall not repeat here and we even see a little bit of nudity (shock)…maybe I’m a prude but I honestly felt embarrassed watching it, even though no one was there with me!
That’s Bridgerton, I suppose, raunchy regency romance. I’m sure season two will be full of similar scenes.
