A MAJOR WhatsApp update is rolling out right now – and it features a big change.
If you’re a regular WhatsApp user, it’s going to change how you forward texts.
From now on, it’s possible to include captions when forwarding media in the app.
That includes images, videos, GIFs and documents.
So if you’ve got an image with a caption and forward it, you can retain the message when you pass it on – as spotted by the sleuths at WABetaInfo.
And the same is true for other types of media: you won’t lose the caption while forwarding.
To get the change, you’ll need to check your phone for updates.
Make sure you’ve got the latest version of WhatsApp installed.
Then go to a chat and try to forward a photo with a caption.
If the caption can be retained, you know that the feature is live on your phone.
Don’t panic if it doesn’t work right away.
Sometimes big WhatsApp changes can take a few days (or even weeks) to fully roll out.
This feature was in testing for a while in the beta version of WhatsApp.
If you want to try WhatsApp features before everyone else, you can join the beta to trial upcoming changes.
Follow our guide below to get started.
