How Kate and William avoid ‘soap opera narrative’ of Charles and Diana

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge has been a senior royal since she married Prince William in 2011. And despite all the pressures of being members of the Royal Family, Kate and William have managed to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. The pair have proven time and again that they work well together as a team, and they are often praised by the public for their strong work ethic.

Kate and William are both very popular members of the Royal Family.

According to YouGov’s survey of the most popular royalty, Prince William is Britain’s third most popular royal with 62 percent popularity.

Kate follows shortly behind with 60 percent popularity in fourth place, making only the Queen and her late husband Prince Philip more popular royals.

And perhaps one of the reasons behind Kate and William’s popularity is their dedication to their royal roles and the private nature of their relationship.

According to a body language expert, William and Kate have steered clear of a dramatic relationship like that of William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s relationship famously ended in divorce in 1996.

The breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage was well-documented in newspapers at the time, and it became a matter of great interest to the public.

But Kate and William have worked hard to keep their marriage out of the public eye.

Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk: “Kate and William’s body language in public has been on rather slow simmer since their marriage, but recently there does seem to have been a subtle peak in their signals of power and confidence, both as a couple and as individuals.

“Kate was never thrown free-fall into the spotlight by a rather cautious William and for years their body language has epitomised ‘good bland’.

“I.e. perfect enough to make them ideal ambassadors for the Firm, but not dramatic or telling enough to provide the kind of soap opera narrative that Charles and Diana provided, and which sparked the feeding frenzy that was claimed by Harry and Meghan to have become unbearable.”

Although Kate and William are famously private when it comes to public displays of affections, they do appear to have had a “more tactile attitude” on recent outings.

Ms James added: “Their caution does appear to have paid off and this seems to be reflected in a much more relaxed and even more tactile attitude in public.

“They also seem to have lost some of the tension caused by the Oprah interview that spurred William to break the habit of a lifetime and reply to a press question about racism during a royal visit.

“Now those signs of tension appear to have evaporated as they truly have emerged as a successful and impressive royal power couple.”

While Kate and William both pursue their own patronages independently, the couple has also consistently proven they work well together as a team.

Ms James said: “Like any good team they function as well individually as they do together, and there are no signs of any resentment or battles for attention when one or the other is taking a key role.”

Since the couple returned to work after their summer break, William and Kate have appeared together on several royal outings.

Kate and William caused quite a stir when they attended the latest James Bond movie premiere, No Time To Die, in London last month.

The following day, the couple were straight back to work for a trip to Northern Ireland.

October also saw the Cambridge’s attend the inaugural Earthshot Prize Awards at Alexandra Palace in London.
