How ‘Flash’ star Ezra Miller went from enemy no. 1 to hero in a year

When Ezra Miller appeared Monday at the premiere of the new $200 million DC Studios movie “The Flash” — which some thought was in danger of being shelved because of Miller’s well-documented antics in the months following filming — it was the first time the actor had been seen in public in almost a year.

Sporting a white suit jacket with black detailing and long wavy hair with a topknot and braids, Miller told “Flash” director Andy Muschietti on the red carpet: “I love you, maestro. I think you are amazing, and I think your work is monumental.”

It was the actor’s first public comments since a raft of stories last year about erratic behavior in Hawaii and Iceland as well as their home in Vermont.

Miller, who uses them/they pronouns, has been holed up at their Vermont farm for the past year while undergoing outpatient mental health treatment, their publicist told The Post.

“The Flash” has gotten good-to-mixed reviews, with The Post’s Johnny Oleksinski calling it “good fun” and raving that Miller “is DC’s much-needed answer to Tom Holland’s embraceable Spider-Man.”

Meanwhile, Twitter was awash with criticism of the actor this week, calling Miller an “abuser” and a “groomer,” but their rep said Miller is getting real help and is recovering.

Despite being at the center of controversy regarding his erratic behavior last year, Ezra Miller was front and center at the premiere of “The Flash” Monday in LA.

“This is not a publicity thing,” the rep said. “This is something being taken very seriously.”

Among other things, the actor was accused of manipulating a harem of young people; throwing a chair at a woman in Hawaii and appearing to choke a woman in Iceland.

Sources told Rolling Stone last year that Miller’s Vermont home contained guns lying around with young children present.

Sara Jumping Eagle, a pediatrician from the Pine Eagle Reservation in South Dakota, told The Post last year that she believed that Miller had brainwashed, assaulted and possibly drugged her now 19-year-old child, Tokata Iron Eyes, after years of alleged grooming.

(Last year, Miller’s agent Scott Metzger largely denied all the allegations against Miller, including issues related to their non-binary status and relationship to Gibson.)

Tokata now goes by the name Gibson and is non-binary.

She posted a now-deleted video on Instagram last year defending herself against accusations she was being controlled by Miller.

But Ana Rosa, 26, who met Miller in Hawaii last year during what at least one outlet called their “reign of terror,” told The Post Thursday that the actor “saved her life.”

She left Hawaii with Miller and her three kids and moved in with the actor at their home in Vermont for three months.

Rosa’s mother, Sheila, told The Post she regards Miller as a “hero.”

Rosa and the children, she said, returned home to her in Dallas last June and Miller returned to Vermont.

“They put their life on the line to save me and my kids,” said Rosa, who was living in Hilo, Hawaii, at the time and was going through a difficult personal situation. “I wanted to get away but I couldn’t. Nobody could help me. Then out of the blue comes Ezra and saw me going through a serious thing and rescued me completely. [They] put their life on the line to save me.”

For their part, Miller pointedly thanked their bosses on the red carpet Monday for “their grace and discernment and care in the context of my life and in bringing this moment to fruition.”

Miller and their agent, Scott Metzger of CAA, met with studio execs in August, reportedly hashing out how to keep “The Flash” on track and craft Miller’s apology for their behavior.

A source close to the studio said she believes that executives went ahead with “The Flash” because they have a “certain amount of empathy and humanity” for Miller.

But another studio executive with knowledge of the situation said “The Flash” was kept alive — and Miller was protected — because Warner Bros., DC’s parent studio, desperately needed it to go ahead.

(Comparisons have been drawn between Miller and Johnny Depp was booted from Warner Bros.’ “Fantastic Beasts 3” in 2020 after losing his first libel case against The Sun newspaper involving his ex-wife Amber Heard.)

“This is a very big movie and after the disasters at CNN [Warner Brothers Discovery CEO] David Zaslav is really in a tough spot, ” said the second exec, referencing the cable network’s plunging ratings and the recent dismissal of CEO Chris Licht. “They promised this movie to Wall Street and they had to deliver.

Sources also said it also would have been costly and disastrous to ditch “The Flash” after the studio’s $70 million “Batgirl” which was unceremoniously shelved by Warner Brothers in 2022.

In August 2022, a week after the embattled Miller was charged with felony burglary for allegedly stealing alcohol from a home in Vermont, the actor broke their silence in a statement provided to Variety by a representative.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller, 29, said in the statement.

“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

The statement came after reports that Warner Bros. was considering pulling “The Flash” because of Miller’s behavior.

For now, Miller’s legal troubles have also apparently been resolved.

After the incident in Hawaii, the actor pled no contest to a single count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and paid a $500 fine and $30 in court costs. The harassment charge was dismissed. No charges were filed in Iceland.

In January, Miller’s attorney Lisa Shelkrot issued a statement on her client’s behalf.

Tokata’s parents, Sara Jumping Eagle and Chase Iron Eyes, went to LA last year to lobby for their child’s release from what they said were Miller’s toxic clutches. The couple have not commented in months.

““Ezra Miller pled guilty this morning/afternoon to a misdemeanor unlawful trespass in Vermont Superior Court and accepted the conditions imposed by the court,” it read. “Ezra would like to thank the court and the community for their trust and patience throughout this process and would once again like to acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health.”

A source familiar with the Warner Bros. executives overseeing “The Flash” told The Post that she thinks Miller is not been given enough credit for taking accountability for their actions and staying home in Vermont and getting mental health treatment.

“How is this not a good thing that someone has corrected himself and righted the ship?” the source said. “I wish people would appreciate that it’s been a year since we have had any problems.”

Tokata’s parents, who lobbied loudly and furiously against Miller and their relationship with Tokata last summer and briefly went to their tribal court to sue the actor, have gone silent on the topic for months. Neither has returned repeated phone calls from The Post.

A former partner of Ana Rosa’s, who was also living in Hawaii, said that he initially liked Miller when he first met them. The man said Miller was in bad shape when he met them and that the actor blamed Hollywood for their troubles.

Miller was with Tokata during his weeks in Hawaii and spent much of their time with Ana Rose and her ex-partner.

“Ezra told me a lot of what people did in Hollywood to [them] when [they were] young. They really messed [the actor] up,” the man said. “[They were] really looking for help.”

The man, who did not want his name used, said that Miller was in a romantic and sexual relationship with Tokata Iron Eyes, aka Gibson, an allegation Miller’s publicist vehemently denied. Gibson’s mother, Sara Jumping Eagle, also told The Post last year that she believed Gibson and Miller had been having sex during their time together.

Ana Rosa said she preferred not to comment on the exact nature of Miller’s relationship with Gibson, saying, “You’ll have to ask them.”

“They were musicians and did art together,” she said. “They were very close.”

Rosa said she speaks to Miller occasionally and sometimes texts Gibson, who is believed to be back near her family in South Dakota.

“After everything that happened last year, we all were in this mode like we’ll just become ghosts for awhile,” Rosa said. “It’s like we’re telepathic and love and protect each other from afar.”

Neither Gibson nor Miller were reachable for comment. Miller’s outgoing voice message says the actor goes for periods of time without using the phone and to “not take it personally” if there is not a timely response.
