How Birds of Prey Factor Into DC’s Deathstroke and Black Canary Series

Writer Joshua Williamson discusses which characters will appear in Deathstroke Inc., including the Birds of Prey and other fan favorites.

Deathstroke Inc., one of DC’s newest titles, is set to hit comic book stores soon, and writer Joshua Williamson supplied fans with details about what characters they should expect to see in the story. Specifically, he confirmed that the Birds of Prey will be making appearances… eventually.

“Oracle plays a role in the Urban Legends story. Part of the problem is Black Canary is so deep undercover, she can’t really communicate with Oracle but we’ll get there. Without getting too deep into spoilers, there will definitely be some Birds of Prey stuff down the line,” Williamson told Newsarama in a recent interview.

In Deathstroke Inc., Dinah Lance/Black Canary teams up with the titular master assassin to uncover the motivations of the secret organization TRUST. One of the main goals for the new title is to see Black Canary return to her spy roots; as such, much of the initial run will see her interactions limited to those with Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. Williamson appears particularly excited about writing the dynamic between the hero and assassin because their views of the world are so diametrically opposed.

However, like with all DC titles, crossovers are inevitable. Beyond confirming the Birds of Prey, Williamson also confirmed that Damian Wayne/Robin, Rose Wilson/Ravager and members of the Justice League and Green Arrow family will make appearances.

The first issue of Deathstroke Inc., written by Williamson and illustrated by Howard Porter, is scheduled for release on Sept. 28.
