Home Bargains announces big change to store opening times ahead of Christmas

The discount retailer has announced a huge shake-up to its opening times ahead of the Christmas period.

Home Bargains shoppers will see their local store remain closed over the festive period for three days – two of which are consecutive.

While many people would rush to enjoy the Boxing Day sale in previous years, the company revealed that it would be keeping doors locked this year.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Friday, the retailer said: “CHRISTMAS ANNOUNCEMENT. All of our stores will be closed for Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.”

Its UK branches always remain closed on Christmas Day, as will be the case this December.

All 550 Home Bargain stores will remain closed on the following dates:

  • Monday, December 25, 2023
  • Tuesday, December 26, 2023
  • Friday, January 1, 2024

The Instagram statement read: “We would like to thank all our staff for how hard you have worked this past year, and want you to relax and enjoy the Christmas break with your loved ones. Love from team HB”.

It is thought Home Bargains will also close stores early on Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24), as they have done in previous years.

Britons were quick to praise the retailer for its decision to put its staff before business over the festive period.

Twitter user Paul Woodham took to the social media site to say: “Well done Home Bargains”.

Others commented on the original Instagram post to support the move, with one user writing: “You set a good example to the rest of the retail industry.”

Another added: “Good! I wish more companies valued their staff this much”.
