TL;DR
- Asus has announced a timeline for its recent flagships to receive the stable Android 12 update.
- The Zenfone 7 and ROG Phone 3 are the oldest phones on the list.
Asus has steadily been delivering some solid smartphones, with its Zenfone 8 series and the ROG Phone 5 range being two standout flagship families in 2021. Now, with Android 12 out of the gate, the company has announced its own timeline for a stable release.
The company confirmed the global Android 12 roadmap in an emailed press release, starting with both the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip getting the stable Android 12 update from December 2021. This update is also set to land on the Zenfone 7 series, the ROG Phone 5 range, and the ROG Phone 3. You can check out the timeline via the list below.
- From December 2021: Zenfone 8, Zenfone 8 Flip
- From Q1 2022: ROG Phone 5/5S
- From H1 2022: ROG Phone 3, Zenfone 7
It’s a little disappointing that 2019’s ROG Phone 2 and Zenfone 6 aren’t getting upgraded to Android 12, although these devices launched with Android 9.0 and have subsequently received Android 11 (in stable or beta form).
In addition to Android 12’s tweaks and changes, Asus says the latest update also brings the company’s battery and performance management features.
“For Zenfone models, it also includes ZenUI-specific changes that allow easier navigation, streamlined control panels, increased visibility for better control, and more customization options,” the company added.
