Here’s when Apple may launch the new AirPods – Times of India

It’s been almost three years since Apple launched a new AirPods variant. The AirPods Pro were launched in October 2019 and since then there have just been rumours about the next variant. These rumours have gathered pace in the last few months and the latest one hints at the AirPods arriving rather soon. According to a report by Digitimes, Apple may launch the new model of AirPods in September alongside the iPhone 13.
The report cites sources that “flexible circuit board shipments have kicked off for the next-generation AirPods models”. Sources, says the report, have suggested that the new AirPods could arrive with the new iPhones at Apple’s much-anticipated event in September. Do note that these won’t be an upgrade of the AirPods Pro but the regular AirPods.

What we know so far about the expected AirPods

The next-generation of AirPods are expected to have the same design philosophy as the AirPods Pro. They are expected to feature shorter stems and ditch the design that was first introduced by Apple almost six years ago. Active noise cancellation feature isn’t expected to be a part of the new AirPods. However, we can expect head-tracking Spatial Audio feature as well as Dolby Atmos music support.
We can also expect a new chip to be inside the new AirPods. Rumour mills might refer to the upcoming AirPods as ‘AirPods 3’ but don’t expect Apple to stick to that nomenclature. There’s no word on whether Apple will add new colours to the AirPods or retain the all-white colour only scheme for its next-gen of true wireless earbuds.
The pricing of the new AirPods is expected to be quite similar to the existing model, which starts just under Rs 15,000 in India.
