Harry Maguire is ‘too concerned’ with checking social media after Manchester United matches, despite the club telling him to stay away from Twitter.

The heavily-criticised defender has lost his starting spot for the Red Devils this season, with Erik ten Hag favouring Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Maguire has been booed by United and England fans in the last 18 months, and has endured a torrid time.

Despite his obvious talent, the criticism has left Maguire low on confidence and ESPN say he can be too focused on social media criticism after matches.

United bosses have advised Maguire to stay away from social media but the defender finds it difficult, whether he’s played well or not.

Maguire faces a decision over his future this summer as Ten Hag remains keen to bring in a new defender.

The England defender is well thought of at the club and Ten Hag rates Maguire’s ability on the ball.

But he’s been moved from left centre-back as Ten Hag favours a left footer in that position, meaning Maguire is up against Varane for a starting spot.

West Ham showed interest in Maguire in January but the defender opted to stay at Old Trafford.

If United can get a sizeable fee for Maguire this summer they will likely cash in, particularly as the club is walking a Financial Fair Play tightrope.
