England striker Harry Kane will swap scoring goals for reading bedtime stories when he appears on CBeebies tonight.

When he does, the Tottenham Hotspur and England striker, 29, will tell a tale of ‘finding your inner lion’ and overcoming fear through self-belief.

He will be the latest famous face to appear on the CBeebies show, which began in 2006 and features celebrities and has since aired over 800 episodes.

The story he’ll be reading is entitled The Lion Inside, which many would say is highly appropriate for the man who regularly wears Three Lions on his shirt.

Speaking about his appearance, Kane said: ‘One of my favourite things to do is sit down with my children before bedtime and read them a book. I enjoy this quality time with them.’

He continued: ‘They especially love the book The Lion Inside so they will be extremely excited to [watch my episode].’

The story follows a mouse who sets out on a journey to find his roar – it’s a story Kane has chosen himself, as he reads it to his own children.

Kane has three children – Ivy, Vivienne Jane, and Louis – with his wife Katie Goodland. The couple married in 2019.

The story was written by author Rachel Bright and illustrated by Jim Field.

Kane now sits alongside the likes of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, singer Harry Styles, and Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis to have appeared on Bedtime Stories.

Ayling-Ellis, 27, signed her story in British Sign Language.

October 10 is World Mental Health day, and the BBC has said that The Lion Inside promotes helpful themes of ‘friendship, confidence, and self-esteem’.

Kane’s appearance on Bedtime Stories also comes on the same day that the Spurs player launched the Harry Kane Foundation.

According to a statement posted on Twitter, the Foundation will ‘aim to transform a generation’s thinking about mental health’.

‘I want to learn more, help normalise conversations around mental health, promote positive habits that support mental well-being and tackle the stigma surrounding the subject.’

He continued: ‘I will use my profile to encourage others to look after their mental health, be their best and know that it’s ok to ask for help.’

Kane scored his 8th goal of the season at the weekend as Tottenham overcame Brighton with a narrow 1-0 win at the Amex Stadium.

Watch Bedtime Stories at 6.50pm on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
