Harrison Ford had beautiful reaction to Indiana Jones reunion

Disney and Lucasfilm are gearing up to release the fifth and final Indiana Jones movie next year, but looks like some major characters are missing from its cast list. While John Rhys-Davis is reprising his role as Sallah, many fans have been calling for Short Round to make a comeback. While his return announcement hasn’t been made just yet, Harrison Ford did reunite with Short Round star Ke Huy Quan in recent weeks – and it went better than ever.

The as-of-yet untitled movie is due to bring Harrison Ford’s journey as the titular archaeologist to a resounding end, once and for all. But there will likely be some surprises along the way.

While promoting the event at D23, Quan was also in attendance and had the opportunity to meet with the actor he played opposite in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

He recalled the story to NY Times writer Kyle Buchanan, who posted the story on his Twitter account. He wrote: “We were at the D23 event and I was told Harrison was gonna be there. We’re in this green room with so many actors, producers, and directors.”

Eventually, someone asked him: “Harrison Ford is right outside the green room. Would you want to go say hi?”

How could he refuse?

Quan said: “I’m thinking: ‘Of course! I haven’t seen him in 38 years.’ So I walk out and I see him about 15 feet away talking to [Indiana Jones 5 star] Phoebe Waller-Bridge, they’re there to promote Indy 5. And as I walk close, my heart is pounding.”

The Everything Everywhere All at Once actor admitted he wasn’t sure if Ford would even recognise him, as the last time they met Quan was around 12-years-old.

However, Ford’s reaction to the young star left him almost speechless.

Quan recalled: “As I get closer, he turns and points his finger at me, and he has that classic, famous, grumpy Harrison Ford look. I go, ‘Oh my gosh, he probably thinks I’m a fan and he’s gonna tell me to not come near him.'”

Instead, Ford looked at Quan, pointed at him, and asked: “Are you Short Round?”

“Immediately, I was transported back to 1984,” Quan said. “When I was a little kid, and I said: ‘Yes, Indy.’ And he said: ‘Come here,’ and gave me a big hug.”

Quan posted photos of their fateful meeting on his Instagram, immortalising their reunion.

However, it does beg the question: Will Quan be involved in the upcoming Indiana Jones 5?

Quan only played Short Round once in the Indiana Jones franchise, but the upcoming Indy 5 is due to round the franchise’s story off for good.

Rhys-Davis is returning as the aforementioned Sallah, and rumour has it Shia LaBeouf is making a comeback as Indy’s son, Mutt.

The hero’s wife, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) will also surely make a return, as well. But does that mean Short Round is due to make a comeback to put an end to his story as well?

Internet rumours previously stated Quan was going to make a comeback in the fourth Indiana Jones movie, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Short Round was reportedly due to make an appearance at Indy and Marion’s wedding in the final scenes of the movie.

The sidekick was going to stand alongside Sallah as an usher during the proceedings. And he was even going to be Indy’s driver one last time as he drove him and his new wife away after the ceremony.

Unfortunately, these scenes were reportedly scrapped at the last minute.

The Indiana Jones films are available to stream on NOW.

Indiana Jones 5 is due for release on June 30, 2023.
