Haringey man in his 30s arrested after a 62-year-old died from a hit and run

A man has been arrested following the death of a 62-year-old pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run. Police were called at around 00:30am this morning (June 26), to a report of a van in collision with a pedestrian in Haringey, North London.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Northumberland Park near the junction with Trulock Road, where they found a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the pedestrian – a 62-year-old man – was pronounced dead.

Met police officers are in the process of informing his family. Following a police investigation into the incident, officers found the driver of the van did not stop after hitting the man.

Instead, the van was found a short distance away from the scene. A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested and taken into police custody.

The investigation into the fatal collision continues and is being led by detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command. Any witnesses who are yet to speak with police are asked to call 101, ref 266/26JUN22.
