Gordo the pug walked the Latin AMAs red carpet and won our hearts: See Pepe Aguilar’s adorable pup

Pepe Aguilar won’t go anywhere without his best companion.

The Mexican singer and his pug, who goes by Gordo El Pug Aguilar, walked the red carpet together Thursday ahead of the 8th annual Latin American Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gordo El Pug kept it classic donning a red bow tie, letting his adorable snout be his flashiest accessory.

In another photo, Gordo El Pug can be seen shying away from the cameras, giving his back as Aguilar and wife Aneliz Álvarez Alcalá pose on the red carpet.

The Aguilar family, also known as La Dinastía Aguilar for their deep-rooted influence in the regional Mexican music scene, welcomed their pug to the family in 2020, according to Univision

“Let’s get started, from the red carpet of the @latinamas accompanied by the loves of my life, my beautiful wife @anelizzilena and @gordoelpugaguilar,” the patriarch wrote on Instagram alongside a video of them walking onto the red carpet.

This year’s Latin AMAs, hosted by Univision’s Clarissa Molina, Mexican actress Galilea Montijo, reggaeton star Natti Natasha and Argentine-Puerto Rican actor Julián Gil, are celebrating the hottest Latin music acts of the moment.

The night will feature performances by Aguilar, his daughter Ángela, Becky G, Myke Towers, Prince Royce, Peso Pluma, Manuel Turizo and more.

Here’s how: Women like Karol G, Natti Natasha, Becky G and Anitta are transforming reggaeton.

This isn’t the first time Aguilar’s pug, who boasts over 64K followers on Instagram, has accompanied him on the red carpet. Last year, they attended the 34th annual Premio Lo Nuestro Awards in Miami, Florida.

Aguilar’s pug is known to also make cameos during the family’s Jaripei Sin Fronteras (Rodeo Without Borders) tour shows. “@gordoelpugaguilar and I wish you a happy Sunday,” Aguilar wrote alongside a video of him and his dog mounted on a horse ahead of a concert in early April.

In October 2022, Aguilar and his daughter Ángela spoke to USA TODAY about their tour and what legacy means to them.

As regional Mexican music continues to evolve with younger generations of artists embracing and experimenting with the genre that dates back to the Mexican Revolution, the Aguilar family spoke about how they’re still paving the path for where it can go.

“We have a lot of young artists choosing to pursue musica Mexicana,” he said at the time. “I love it. … They’re adding their own flair and their own tastes.”
