Gogglebox viewers’ dismay as Mary left in tears

Channel 4 fans were less than happy when one of their favourite Gogglebox stars started to get emotional during the ITV Platinum Jubilee celebrations. During Friday’s (May 20) episode of the hit Channel 4 programme, Giles and Mary from Wiltshire were watching the ITV special programme which saw a night full of entertainment to mark The Queen’s 70 years on the British throne.

During the clip, Mary started to cry as she expressed her admiration for The Queen. Her husband Giles told her to ‘steady’ as she held back her tears. Many fans of the show took to social media to react to Mary’s behaviour.

@TashAmaka was one of the first people on Twitter to say: “Get a grip Mary.” Meanwhile, @BenchSue commented: “Giles & Mary fawning over Liz and the Jubilee is extremely nausea inducing.”

Aar Jae Wills (@AarJaeWilliams) added: “Why does just seeing the queen make you cry? I don’t get it. I really don’t get why Mary is brought to tears.”

But others offered support for the couple. @leaWalkerOF echoed Giles, with a simple: “Steady Mary.”

Stacey Rule (@StaceyRule) said: “Oh my days Mary on gogglebox not only makes me laugh but melts me with her emotion… Mary and Giles for their own show!”

Gogglebox stars watched other clips from The Repair Shop, The Eurovision Song Contest, BBC News and Beat The Chasers. Gogglebox can be watched on Channel 4 at 9pm on Fridays.
