It’s safe to say Gino D’Acampo will not be serving up a roast dinner with all the trimmings on Christmas Day.

The TV chef gave an insight into how he celebrates the festive season on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel on Sunday and it most certainly doesn’t include turkey and stuffing.

The 46-year-old, who hails from Italy, appeared in the Christmas edition of the game show, alongside Alesha Dixon, Bear Grylls, Michael Ball, Rosie Jones, William Hanson, Fleur East, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, AJ Odudu and Bill Bailey.

Before the programme, which sees three contestants hope to answer their way to a fortune, kicked off, comedian Michael, 46, asked the This Morning star how the ‘D’Acampo household’ spend Christmas.

Gino replied his loved ones always celebrate the big day in Sardinia, continuing: ‘It’s beautiful, all of the family together. We don’t eat all the stuff you guys eat. I don’t like the idea of having plates with everything on it.

Drawing laughs and gasps from the studio audience, Gino explained: ‘I’ve never understood that, you guys. You have turkey, vegetable, potato, sprouts and then you cover everything with this gravy.

With AJ demanding ‘what has gravy ever done to you?’, Gino replied: ‘The problem is everything tastes like gravy. I don’t even know what I’m eating. Sprouts taste like gravy, turkey tastes like the broccoli. It’s messy.’

Michael asked Gino what he likes to eat on December 25 instead of the British classics, with the cook revealing he prefers to tuck into ‘fish and seafood’.

Gino also said he doesn’t like pulling crackers before the comedian quipped: ‘Do you like Christmas?’

‘Can I be very honest with you,’ Gino said tentatively. ‘I’m not a very big Christmas fan. I know, I know. I’m honest.’

Drew Barrymore has also revealed she doesn’t follow certain Christmas traditions by not buying her children any presents.

The 47-year-old actress – who is mum to daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, eight – who she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman, has revealed that she much prefers spending time with them.

Charlie’s Angels star Drew said: ‘I am one of those mothers that sounds like a mean Scrooge because I don’t buy them presents.

‘I always take them somewhere because I want to show them a life experience. Memory building for me is so important. So I’ve never really done presents under the tree.’

She continued to tell Travel + Leisure that instead she will be whisking them off for a beach holiday this festive season.

Michael McIntryre’s The Wheel is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
