HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact will launch its first-ever international Genius Invokation TCG Tournament series, titled Astra Carnival: The Prince Cup, in the latter of 2023.
Details about the tournament
The TCG tournament will bring players from different countries for six regional championships and a series of invitational tournaments. The prize pool has been set at $270,000.
The Prince Cup will consist of six regional tournaments that will take place from June to September. These will happen along with three cross-regional invitationals in June, August, and December.
The Cat’s Tail GITCG Tournament was organised on Discord earlier this year, with the authorisation of the game developers. The top contenders from tournaments of this community will participate in the regional championship.
The quarter-finalists of the tournaments will compete on-site, and the matches will be streamed live on the official AstraCarnival social media channels. Some players may also receive invitations to the invitationals, where they will showcase their skills in exhibition matches for the international audience.
The regionals will kick off in Korea, Europe, and North America, with wildcard competition sign-ups open today.
Genshin Impact’s TCG mode
While Genshin Impact does have co-op functionality, it is very limited and can mostly be used only to defeat overworld bosses together. In December 2022, the game added Genius Invokation TCG, which is a card-based game mode with the option to challenge other players.
HoYoverse is also encouraging players to organise their own non-official Genius Invokation TCG tournaments, with the company’s guidance and support. HoYoverse’s website has the Genshin Impact Non-Official Tournament Collaboration Rules for this.
