Garmin’s Forerunner 265 and 965 are bright additions to the lineup, literally
TL;DR
- Garmin has announced the new Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965.
- Both devices feature the line’s first-ever colorful AMOLED displays.
- The Forerunner 265 is available now for $449.99, and the Forerunner 965 will land in late March for $599.99.
This morning, Garmin announced two additions to its powerful Forerunner lineup, a new Forerunner 265 and a Forerunner 965. The predecessors to these devices landed just eight months ago and, in our opinion, were both great launches.
The latest devices bring something more to the table (or road really): bright, AMOLED touchscreen displays. For the first time, both Forerunners offer Garmin’s top tools on a brighter, more colorful screen that’s easy to view by day or night. In addition to their facelifts, the Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965 feature Garmin’s most popular features for advanced training.
Highlights include the company’s Body Battery and training readiness metrics, plus Morning Report and a dedicated race widget. Runners can also tap into wrist-based performance data and personalized training plans. Given that we already considered Garmin’s Forerunner devices among the best running watches you can buy, the new additions make an even more compelling case.
Forerunner 265
The Forerunner 265 measures in at 46mm while the Forerunner 265S lands 4mm smaller at 42mm. The smaller model offers up to 15 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 24 hours in GPS mode. The 46mm model cuts those numbers to 13 days and 20 hours with its larger display. Shoppers can purchase either size now for $449.99 at Garmin.com.
Forerunner 965 series
Outshining the 265 with an equally vibrant but even larger AMOLED display, the Forerunner 965 features the company’s largest screen specs at 1.4 inches. The bright touchscreen is housed on a 47mm case with a titanium bezel. In addition to more real estate, the pricier model also brings a few extra advanced features to the wrist. These include colorful, built-in mapping, additional training metrics like Garmin’s new load ratio, and added music storage.
On the battery front, the Forerunner 965 offers 31 hours of battery life in GPS mode and up to 23 days in smartwatch mode. For context, the previous generation claimed up to 15 days in smartwatch mode but up to 42 hours in GPS mode without music. While the Garmin Forerunner 265 hit shelves today, the 965 lands late next month, priced at $599.99.
