Gallen confirms he will box again

Paul Gallen has confirmed he will fight again, revealing he has fielded a number of “unbelievable” offers since his heavyweight bout against Justis Huni.

Gallen (11-1-1, 6 KOs) was waved off by the referee in the 10th and final round of his Australian heavyweight title fight last month against Huni (5-0, 4 KOs), following a knockdown.

It was Gallen’s first defeat.

Since the loss to Huni, in which Gallen also suffered a broken rib, the 39-year-old former NRL star has been urged by a number of pundits to retire from boxing, including from the likes of Australian boxing great Jeff Fenech.

But despite those calls, Gallen confirmed he’s ready “to make a dollar” by returning to the sport.

“I will get in the ring again,” Gallen told 2GB’s Wide World of Sports radio.

“Who that is against and when? I’m not too sure.

“Over 400 games of football and 15 fights, I’ve been hurt once.

“I have nothing to prove, but I want to make a dollar.”

The former Cronulla Sharks skipper claims the offers he’s fielded since his most recent defeat have blown him away.

“The offers that have come to me over the past three weeks have been unbelievable from that [Huni] fight,” Gallen said.

“It’s like my stocks have gone up. I can’t imagine what would have happened had I won that fight.

“My stocks have gone up because of the effort I put into it and the fight itself.”

Huni beats Gallen by 10th round TKO

Asked if the offers have come from either footballer players or boxers, Gallen revealed both options have arisen.

“I have the option to do both, but first of all, it will be football players to start with and then after that, I will go back to boxers and MMA-type of people,” he added.

“There will be rugby league players to start with and then we will look at boxers and MMA fighters after that.

“And there is always the option of Sonny Bill Williams.”
