MANILA, Philippines — Veteran lifestyle columnist Maurice Arcache has passed away on Friday according to his friends, leaving the country’s social circles in mourning for the death of an icon whose column ran on different broadsheets over the years.

The death was confirmed by his friends including Philippine Tatler editor Anton San Diego, who said Arcache’s passing broke his heart.

Arcache was 89.

“To Maurice, my heart breaks not knowing I won’t be able to hear your voice, asking what’s happening or what are you doing today? Thank you for the years of friendship and all the memories I will treasure of our time together. They were priceless! You are a great friend, a legend and the funniest man I know. God bless you and rest now…No more sadness. You are in a much better place,” San Diego said.

Other friends and co-workers like Stargate PeopleAsia where he used to have a column also, mourned his passing.

“Society columnist Maurice Arcache, author of well-loved columns in PeopleAsia, The Philippine STAR and a slew of other respected publications, reportedly passed away today in his sleep,” Stargate PeopleAsia said in its post.

Arcache was a known figure in the lifestyle world, having written his column for different publications including the Philippine Daily Inquirer at one point.  He also appeared on television during the 1990s, as a co-host of fellow columnist Johnny Litton on ABS-CBN’s late night talk show “Oh No! It’s Johnny.”
