APPLE has revealed that one of its early free photo services is closing down for good in July – and fans aren’t impressed with the move.
My Photo Stream has been around since 2011 as a free way to sync pictures between iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.

The feature lets users upload the last 30 days of images or videos – up to a limit of 1,000 – without eating into their iCloud storage cap.
One of My Photo Stream’s limitations is that it doesn’t sync high quality photos most of us expect today.
These days most people use the newer iCloud Photos service, which appears to be why Apple has decided to shut it down.
But not everyone is pleased about the changes as it means you’ll have to pay for an iCloud subscription instead.
“iCloud Photos is s**t , it takes up your cloud storage very fast,” one annoyed user wrote on Twitter.
“Photostream is useful if you don’t want to cough up money for a s**tscription…”
Another added: “It’s infuriating that this nice, simple functionality, without the huge complexity of pushing my entire photo library to iCloud – which I’ve never wanted to do, is going away.”
A third said: “I’ve been using photo stream since it first launched, and yes, it’s very convenient to have all my recent photos on all of my device FOR FREE!!
“Disappointed with Apple decision 🙁
“I know iCloud Photos is superior, but I’m not planning adding even more subscription to my life.”
Apple says My Photo Stream will stop working on July 26.
New photo uploads to the service from your devices will stop one month before, on June 26.
How do I save pictures from Photo Stream?
Apple explains on its website that any photos uploaded to the service before June 26 will remain in iCloud for 30 days from the date of upload and will be available to any of your devices where My Photo Stream is currently enabled.
“By July 26, 2023, there will be no photos remaining in iCloud, and the service will be shut down,” the firm said.
“The photos in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of your devices, so as long as you have the device with your originals, you won’t lose any photos as part of this process.
“If a photo you want isn’t already in your library on a particular iPhone, iPad, or Mac, make sure that you save it to your library on that device.”
If you used Photo Stream there is a way you can save any images you have.
Go into the Photos app and find the My Photo Stream album.
Select the photos you want to save, then tap the Share button to save them to your library.
