Frank Lampard ‘offered Everton job’ as ex-Chelsea boss sees off two contenders

Everton have reportedly brought their drawn-out managerial search to an end two weeks after Rafael Benitez was sacked, with reports suggesting on Friday that Frank Lampard has been offered the job at Goodison Park.

Lampard, 43, landed his first managerial role at Derby in 2018 following his retirement just two years prior.

He did an incredible job at Pride Park, entering the play-offs and only losing narrowly to Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.

His exploits earned him the Chelsea job, returning to Stamford Bridge after a five-year hiatus and impressed in his first season as boss, earning a Champions League spot.

Yet after topping the league at the start of December 2020, Lampard quickly plummeted as far as eighth in the league table before his dismissal was confirmed just three weeks into the new year.

It remained to be seen where he would take his next role, having been linked with the Crystal Palace, Rangers and Aston Villa jobs in recent months.

But it seems as though Goodison Park will be his next home, with the Telegraph reporting that he has been offered a contract on Merseyside.

The report states that the tortuous process is now over after consulting many managers about taking over the reins at Goodison Park.

Wayne Rooney was constantly touted before telling Sky on Friday that he turned down an interview in order to stay at Derby, who sit joint-bottom of the Championship after a 21-point deduction.

Vitor Pereira was also interviewed for the vacancy, although when it became clear that Moshiri was ready to offer him the role, Everton fans graffiti on the stadium letting their feelings known. Even a televised broadcast of Pereira effectively showcasing his talents to Evertonians around the world could not save him from being rejected from the role.

Lampard impressed in his second interview on Thursday, and owner Farhad Moshiri and his team decided he was the best man for the job.

He is expected to lead the team out in next Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round clash against Brentford.
