Four managers who could take charge at Crystal Palace next season

The 75-year-old has a 100% record after Saturday’s (April 1) first Premier League win in 2023 over Leicester City, which gave them some breathing space from the relegation battle.

But with a view to next season, who might be Palace’s manager after the summer?

Brendan Rodgers

The former Leicester manager lost his job after Saturday’s defeat at Selhurst Park, but despite a tough couple of seasons, he has an FA Cup and Community Shield to show from his time at the club.

He led Liverpool to second in the Premier League and Celtic to multiple league titles and would be a significant coup for Crystal Palace as they look to take the next step up the league, if they can avoid this season’s relegation battle.

Rodgers has been linked to the Chelsea job, which might stand in Palace’s way, but other candidates seem to be closer to that position than him.

Graham Potter

Another recently sacked Premier League manager after poor results finally caught up with him at Chelsea.

However the former Brighton manager has lost very little credibility after failing to get any good results out of a team that had £600 million worth of new players added two months ago, and did not even have enough space to fit the entire squad in their changing room.

Potter did turn down the Leicester job, citing the need for a break after being sacked. He is highly thought of after doing an excellent job at Brighton, and would arrive at Palace with the club in a similar position to when he started at the Seagulls. However, he might be encouraged to seek a bigger club after tasting Champions League football during an unbeaten run in that competition with Chelsea.

Michael Carrick

This might depend on how he ends the season with Middlesbrough, who currently sit in third and look set battle for promotion in the Championship play-offs.

The former Manchester United midfielder has revolutionised Boro, who are playing some scintillating football after initially struggling this season. While he is still early in his management career, Palace could look to test his resolve and try and entice him to south London, especially if he fails to gain promotion.

Roy Hodgson

Then there’s Roy.

Just a couple of weeks out of retirement and he has already mentioned the potential of making his temporary return more permanent. It would be foolish to jump the gun in saying Crystal Palace are back after a single win, but what is for sure is that Roy cares deeply about the club.

Some fans, despite their admiration for him, would see the permanent appointment as a backward step for the club, as the summer is such a good opportunity to build a project to take the Eagles past their perennial position in mid-table.
