Former Man United defender recommends Jules Kounde transfer this summer

Mikael Silvestre believes former side Manchester United should consider a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer. United are set to back their next permanent manager heavily in the next transfer window, with the signing of a new centre-back a possibility at the end of the season.

MEN Sport understands United are prioritising the addition of a new central midfielder and an attacker this summer, though the club is also open to reinforcing their defence if the right player becomes available.

Former United defender Silvestre, a stalwart of Sir Alex Ferguson’s defence in the early noughties, was quizzed on United’s need for a new central defender at the end of the season — and he suggested French compatriot Kounde could be worth considering.

“You’ve got to consider Jules Kounde, for sure. That could be one to be added to the list.” Silvestre told the Manchester Evening News as part of an interview in association with bettingexpert.

“Everybody is linked with United, all the top players and top defenders are linked. I think Jules Kounde should be high up on the list.”

Last week Ralf Rangnick joked with fans outside Old Trafford when questioned about summer transfer ‘target’ Kounde, as well as Declan Rice and Erling Haaland.

After the Watford game, a video emerged on social of Rangnick being quizzed by fans after the stalemate as he signed an autograph on a fan’s jersey. Someone behind the camera can be heard saying: “There’s three big names to come in the summer [Jules] Kounde, [Declan] Rice and [Erling] Haaland.”

Rangnick replied: “Who? What are you dreaming about at night?”
