WALES could become home to a multi-million-pound holiday resort featuring forest lodges, zip wires, and canyoning experiences.
Work is underway to build a lavish holiday park in the Afan Valley in Wales.
According to Wales Online, the new £250m holiday park, Wildfox Resorts, will have 570 forest lodges and 130 apartments and rooms on the 132 hectare-site.
There will also be a range of indoor and outdoor activities like wild swimming, mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, and bouldering as well as two state-of-the-art zip wires.
The park will also have an indoor waterpark, spa, and a shopping plaza.
While the park won’t open to the public until at least 2027, construction work has already started.
Wildfox Resorts, the team behind the development, have closed footpaths and put temporary fencing in place around the site in the upper Afan Valley.
The measures have been imposed for public safety.
Local residents in Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend County Borough received letters informing them of the closures in the area.
It is thought that the Afan Valley Park will be the first of three proposed resorts in the UK.
The park will be located seven miles from the town of Port Talbot and generate thousands of jobs in the area.
Cllr Huw David, Bridgend Council leader, said: “This hugely ambitious development will be a catalyst for a new wave of employment and tourism in the south Wales valleys.
“The resort is set to employ around 1,000 people in addition to the jobs that will be generated during its construction phase, and with access routes running through both the Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend County Borough areas, it will offer plenty of supplier, training and investment opportunities.”
Boss of the Salamanca Group, Martin Bellamy, told Wales Online: “When I was first introduced to Afan Valley I instantly saw its potential and it made the perfect home for a new style of staycation in the UK.
“Our priority is to create memorable experiences not just for our guests but for our workforce.”
Holidays at the resort could operate on a similar schedule to Center Parcs, with guests arriving on Mondays or Fridays for three, four or seven days.
The project is being led by Peter Moore, who brought Center Parcs to the UK.
Meanwhile, proposals have also been put forward for an adventure resort in Kilvey Hill, Swansea.
And a new £300million attraction is also set to open in Blackpool, with three huge indoor theme parks, live performances, and a number of rides and shows.
