fifa: EA Sports may rename it’s ‘FIFA’ game series, here’s why – Times of India

EA Sports is “exploring” the possibility of renaming its FIFA game series, raising the possibility that the recently released FIFA 22 will be the last game in the series with the ‘FIFA’ name. It’s a decision due to their naming rights agreement with the governing body.
A blog post recently released by EA Sports not only celebrated the launch of FIFA 22 but also touched on EA Sports plans for the future of the FIFA game series.
The EA blog post read, “As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.”
Since 1993, EA Sports have been producing an annual version of the football video game, along with spin-off editions. It is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. It launched FIFA 22 on October 1 and reports say that 9.1 million people have already played the new edition of the game.

EA also made clear that it’s fully aware of how important branded competitions and national leagues, as well as globally-popular clubs, stadiums and players are to the “authenticity” of the FIFA game series.
The blog also stated that through years of building it’s global franchise, EA knows that authenticity is essential to the experience. That is the reason it focuses so much on the collective strength of over 300 individual licensed partners that give them access to 17,000+ athletes across 700+ teams, in 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world.
It also stated that EA continually invests in the partnerships and licenses that are most meaningful to players, and for that it’s game is the only place one can authentically play in the iconic UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, Premier League, Bundesliga and LaLiga Santander among many others.
The move follows Japanese game makers Konami rebranding their Pro Evolution Soccer series as eFootball as of the latest edition of the game.
