Fern Britton felt like she was in ‘sausage machine’ during ‘uncomfortable’ Strictly stint

Former This Morning presenter Fern Britton, 63, has addressed her time on Strictly Come Dancing, saying that she felt like she was in a “sausage machine” during her stint on the show. The ITV personality and author spoke about not only her time on the BBC dance competition but also on the tour, which, despite her enjoyment from the performances, made her feel like she was “spat out” after her Strictly journey.

The ex-wife of TV chef Phil Vickery took part in the tenth series of the dance show in 2012 and was partnered with professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev.

Fern was eliminated fifth from the competition, meaning she didn’t get to take part in Strictly Come Dancing’s Children in Need special.

The star left the show after finishing in the bottom two alongside Girls Aloud’s Kimberley Walsh, who was dancing with Pasha Kovalev.

However, looking back on her time on the show, the mother-of-four revealed in a new interview that she was “spat out” after finishing her series.

Fern admitted in reference to her Strictly journey: “Once you are in the sausage machine you are there until you are spat out the other end.”

She also told how she ended up travelling on the bus meant for the band and members of stage management as she didn’t feel “comfortable” surrounded by the professional dancers.

Revealing that she quickly “fell in” with the stage managers, Fern admitted that she was soon asked by members of the band to join them on their tour bus.

She went on to add that after three days travelling with the professional dancers, she switched to the band’s bus, as she felt more “comfortable” there.

Speaking about the “twirlies'” reaction to her moving bus, Fern said: “They could not give a monkey’s whether you were there or not.

“But on the band’s bus they always had cheeses and beautiful bottles of wine and ham.”

Also in the interview, the TV presenter admitted that she’s “had a bad two or three years” following her split from estranged husband Phil Vickery.

The star detailed the “tough time” she has been through over the past few years, as the star suffered several painful losses, including that of her father.
