‘Exquisite’: Queen stuns in aquamarine brooches from King George VI for Platinum Jubilee
The Queen is a master of sending subtle messages with her jewellery. In celebration of her Platinum Jubilee this Sunday February 6, the Queen has released some brand new pictures of her viewing memorabilia from her Golden and Diamond Jubilees. The Queen is sitting in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle, wearing a stunning blue turquoise dress.
But it was Queen Elizabeth’s jewellery that was most striking.
The monarch had selected some very meaningful aquamarine gems for these new photos.
For her highly-anticipated Platinum Jubilee pictures, the Queen chose to wear her aquamarine clip brooches.
CEO of New York jewellery house LeVian, Eddie LeVian, whose ancestors guarded the royal jewels of Persia, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the Queen’s brooches.

The expert said: “This exquisite pair of art deco aquamarine brooches were an 18th birthday gift to the then Princess Elizabeth in 1944 from her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
“The aquamarines are coupled with baguette diamonds and these brooches can be worn as one piece, although the Queen usually wears places them diagonally.
“Aquamarines work beautifully with teal blue as can be seen from this picture and the Queen has also worn these brooches with white and other blue hues, including during a private birthday lunch with the Obama in 2016.”
These are a pair of Art Deco-style pieces crafted by Boucheron.
DON’T MISS:
The brooches are made of aquamarine and diamonds and in a typical 1940s design combine baguette, oval and round stones.
The distinctive style of the brooches – one often used by Cartier – led many jewellery experts to believe the clips were actually the work of the brand, which is why they are often incorrectly identified as the Cartier aquamarine clips.
However, they were correctly identified as Boucheron ones in Leslie Field’s The Queen’s Jewels.
The clips can be worn in a number of different ways: as matching clips, on either shoulder or as a single brooch.
The Queen usually wears them – as she did today – as separate clips, one above the other, on her left shoulder.
Due to the translucent nature of the jewels, the Queen typically wears them with blue or pale purple fabrics that enhance the natural colour.
Today the Queen opted for a turquoise dress with a beautiful pearl necklace to match.
The Queen last wore these aquamarine brooches at the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in 2020.
Queen Elizabeth II was joined by one of her dogs, a Dorgi called Candy, in one of the pictures.
She can be seen viewing a display of memorabilia from her Golden and Diamond Jubilees in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle.
The Queen has since travelled to her Sandringham estate where she traditionally spends the anniversary of her accession to the throne, and she will celebrate the occasion in Norfolk this year as well.
February 6 is a very poignant day for Queen Elizabeth as it is the date her father King George VI died in 1952.
Therefore, it is unsurprising that she wants to honour him in the photographs celebrating her milestone achievement of 70 years on the throne.
