Senior coach Adam Simpson could be one of a number of casualties, with the West Coast Eagles set to embark on a mass exodus, according to veteran The Age’s Caroline Wilson.
The Eagles have won just one match so far this season, and Wilson said Saturday’s 71-point loss to Carlton may have put Simpson in danger of losing his job this year.
Speaking on Nine’s Footy Classified, Wilson expected long-time Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett to be the “first casualty”, but suggested Simpson may not be far behind.

“The story all year has been that it’ll be either the coach or the CEO, there has to be one big scalp, I’m now not sure Adam Simpson will survive,” she said.
“I thought he might because of his huge contract and the fact that they’d have to pay him out for two years. Although they’re a very wealthy club, they seem unwilling to go over their soft cap in any radical way.
“The Carlton result almost made the minds of some board members believe that this has just got to change.”

Wilson believes a number of senior players, “several” assistant coaches and the fitness staff could all be shown the exit door in a massive off-season overhaul.
Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes backed up Wilson’s report, forecasting an “exodus coming”.
“When you’re comparing who they’re playing against, they’re not young either. This isn’t the Giants in their first year,” he told Footy Classified.
“I think there’s an exodus coming. The way that he’s been carrying himself, he’s been a poor ambassador for this club.
“This is why I think they need a circuit-breaker (because) he’s starting to treat journalists pretty disrespectfully.”
Simpson’s bottom-placed Eagles have their best chance at securing a win in months on Sunday when they host the 17th-placed Kangaroos at home.
