Everything you need to know about The Language of Love presenter Ricky Merino

Channel 4 has brought back the “queen of reality”, Davina McCall, to present a brand-new show on dating called The Language of Love.

The show sees Spanish and British contestants complete tasks together and explore romantic possibilities, despite not speaking the same language.

However, her co-presenter has also drawn a lot of interest from reality fans, as she presents the show alongside Spanish co-star Ricky Merino.

A well-known singer and actor in Spain, he is not as familiar to British audiences – but all of that is set to change.

Davina is clearly a big fan of Ricky, saying: “Oh. My. God. We had the best laugh! I have never laughed so much. He is so lovely. He is coming over to stay with us in the New Year with his partner. We just absolutely clicked. I love him.”

Who is Ricky Merino?

Ricky Merino is a 35 -year-old singer, actor and TV show host from Mallorca. He speaks English, Spanish and Catalan.

When asked to tell the British audience about his background, he said: “Here in Spain, people started to know me because I was a contestant on a talent show (Operación Triunfo) which is kinda like The X Factor of Spain. I’m so pleased to be a host now on British television.”

His self-titled album is available to stream on Spotify.

Musically, he’s talked about his love for UK artists, saying: “I’m a huge fan of British music, especially the Spice Girls, and Davina knows some of the Spice Girls, so that was huge for me.”

When talking about filming The Language of Love, he revealed that he was also in rehearsals for Ghost: The Musical in Madrid and travelled to and from their filming location in Andalusia.

He described his appearances on the show as “a dream come true”, going on to say: “Since I was a little child, maybe because of my love of the Spice Girls, I always had my eye on British television and music so it’s going to be amazing being a host on UK television.”

“I’m so lucky that my first time I’m going to be on British TV is going to be next to Davina.”

When is The Language of Love on TV?

The Language of Love began on January 4 and continues for eight episodes in the Tuesday 10pm slot on Channel 4 and All 4.
